The position involves assistance with the day-to-day operation of the Inn with a focus on the environmental education aspect of our mission. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
1) Giving evening educational programs
2) Maintaining our volunteer program and volunteer schedule
3) Maintaining our composting worm beds
4) Maintaining the native plant around the Inn
5) Producing the quarterly newsletter, Foote Notes
6) Assisting in outreach
The ideal candidate will have earned a college degree in a natural science or related field. The candidate will have experience in education or public speaking along with a genuine interest in educating the public in natural resource conservation. Familiarity with Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint is necessary. Knowledge of Southern Appalachian flora and fauna along with green building operations is desirable.
This position requires one to "live on site". A private room along with board and Wi-Fi is provided for the candidate only; sorry, no dependents or pets. You will be sharing common living areas with other staff members. A health plan is available after 90 days. Starting salary is $22,000 with the potential for bi-annual bonuses. The Inn serves family style meals for up to fifty people. The kitchen cook works closely with other staff members and volunteers to make breakfast, staff lunch, and/or dinner. The menu is flexible, but the food must be good! The cook must also be able to interface with our wide array of guests to help them all have an excellent visit at the Hike Inn.
Experience cooking in a commercial kitchen is preferred. The applicant must be at least 18 years of age. This position requires one to "live on site". A private room along with board is provided for the candidate only; sorry, no dependents or pets. You will be sharing common living areas with other staff members. A health plan is available after 90 days. The position is based on a forty hour work week. Occasional overtime may be required. Starting wage is $7.35 per hour plus tips.
